Freecycle

About 10 days ago my wife learned about a web site called Freecycle. It basically gets people in a city on an email list (A YahooGroups list) for the purpose of giving and recieving stuff. The rules are, you can post a message of a OFFER to give something away or a NEED of something. Then someone who wants what you've got or has what you need emails you and a transaction takes place. The catch is anything offered has to be free. It's a pretty neat idea to help folks with unwanted things find a home for them. In the 10 days we've been on it we've gotten rid of the Fitness Flyer we weren't using, an old worn out Weber grille, and an Epson printer that worked but had the habit of spewing and smearing ink on the page every now and then. The printer was gone within 24 hours of us getting our new one. Additionally, we picked up a new Casio keyboeard (and stand) to replace our eldest daughter's that just quit one day and my wife picked up some kind of designer skirt outfit.

Great idea, go check it out and see if your city's on the list.

Cool idea. I just joined the St. Louis group. I have a basement full of decent used stuff that I can't bear to throw away, am too lazy to try to sell, and would love to see used by someone!

This is at least the third cool website I've found from your blog. I use the email obfuscator on all of my blog pages with email links now. And I frequent RadCon whenever I have the time. I should really try to post some of my haunts as well...

We also put the HUGE box that our new home gym came in on there. It's sitting in the garage and the last thing that's keeping the Ody outside. didn't think anyone would want it, but we got two takers right away. Still trying to get that transfer arranged.

That's cool that all those links I've been posting are of use to someone. I noticed your name appearing at RC a lot and wondered if you'd found them through me. I think I found them through the Thinklings. Mean Dean's tools (Obfuscator & Scripturizer) are just too cool. He's my kinda geek. :-) I just wish I was geek enough to understnad all the stuff he writes. Mostly goes over my head.

BTW - the 'Email the Doc' link on your main page doesn't seem to be obfuscated, is it?

Yeah, it is. Most browsers automatically convert the hex code, but here is how that link looks in the source file (which is what the spambots read):

a href="mailto:%20doc@v%69%72u%73do%63%2e%6e%65t">EMail the doc/a

AH, the diference must be that you didn't check the JAVA button when you generated yours. I did, so what I see at the bottom of IE is JAVA giberish, while I see a plain 'mailto' statement on yours

While I like freecycle, I also like another service at www.abcfree.com. Both services are all about keeping useful goods out of our landfills, so the
earth is the big winner. I like ABCFree because it allows you to make a "wish list" and you just get contacted when something that you are looking for
comes up in your area. Also, ABC gives a portion of its revenue to schools so kids are also big winners.
