Leno's Toronado

Jay Leno's 1966 ToronadoCheck this car out. It's Jay Leno's Custom 1966 Olds Toronado. I have a soft spot in my heart for 60's American cars and Oldmobiles in general (I learned to drive on Dad's 1977 Cutlass), but I've always loved the early Toronados. Lots of style, room and power.

Well, this is no ordinary Toronado. It's powered by a prototype GM 425 cubic inch crate motor with twin turbos that makes 1,070 HP and 1,000 ft/lbs of torque. That's 5 times the power of my 1999 Oddysey, 4 times the power of my 1960 Thunderbird and about a million times as much as my tired 1993 Escort.

Under the restored, stock sheet metal is a stretched C5 Corvette chassis. It's been converted from FWD to RWD and utilizes a beefed up Corvette automatic rear transaxle. Custom 17" alloy wheels that look just like the originals keep the outside looking stock.

General Motors photo as seen on Serious Wheels, a site with lots of cool car pictures.

Oooh. Aaah. Droooool.

oh, um, er - don't mind me. Pretty car. Great color and mods. Being a computer nerd, I tend to ooh and aah over computer mods, but a great car mod/restoration that is not done "Pimp my Ride" style is cool to me, too.

I love Toronados. I am currently driving an 81 Toronado CSX (not sure what the CSX means). Anyways, I love the way they have both the power or a sports car (somewhat), and also how they have the tankiness of a boat :D

My Dad had an '80 Toronado, It had the 350 V8 and a 4 barrel carb. It was pretty fast, for the day anyway. It was the first car we had with power goodies (locks, windows, trunk), which was cool too.

I got a '67 Toronado from my grandad, he bought it when it first came out. That car is huge but it can hall hella ass

if jay have one of his cars that he dont used any more i will like to drive it arount .i know he have some of them may be a 1970 that he consider a new compare whit his colection .

Hasn't anybody noticed some dumbass mechanic bent the front bumper under the bottom which bowed the sides out. Probably put one of those stand alone jacks with two rubber pads under the front bumper to put tha wheels on it at the last minute before the photo shoot.

The 1966 Olds Toronado is the most awesome car I have ever owned. Truly a brute of an automobile.
