There Is Little Better Than ...

From Daniel at Alien Soil (some borrowed/stolen from him or his commenters)...

  • There is little better than a warm sunny evening and an old, rear wheel drive, V8 powered convertible. No radio, just the sound of the wind and the low rumble of the lightly muffled exhaust. Stress? What stress?
  • There is little better than my wife's embrace.
  • There is little better than a perfectly executed turn. Wide at entry, nailing the apex, wide at exit and getting around the corner a bit faster than most would dare.
  • There is little better than an evening of good, deep conversation with good friends.
  • There is little better than perfectly sweetened (or just right peach or raspberry) iced tea.
  • There is little better than Red Robin's Banzai Burger.
  • There is little better than sleeping on a cool night with the windows wide open and the covers pulled up around your neck.
  • There is little better than a weekend nap.
  • There is little better than 50's - 60's American cars with perfect paint and flawless chrome, lowered with big aluminum or chrome wheels.
  • There is little better than the satisfaction of fixing your own cars and saving $100's.
  • There is little better than close vocal harmony. Think Barbershop, folk and American Roots music.
  • There is little better than fresh McDonalds fries.
  • There is little better than pulling in the driveway and watching the joyous bouncing a giggling of my girls as they rejoice that "Daddy's home!"
  • There is little better than a full throttle take off in an old V8 ragtop. Pushed back in the seat and the marvelous sound of that V8 through the open top.
  • There is little better than my wife's smile. All is right with the world if I can see her smile.

How about you? Leave them on your blog (Trackack please) or in the comments.

There is little better than a Bojangles biscuit.
There is little better than a perfectly executed football play.
There is nothing better than the way my wife looks in the morning with the sunlight shining on her face.
There is little better than a good talk with an old friend.
There is little better than a small boat and a big, calm sea.
There is little better than the feeling of being home.

Don't know that I can trackback but I did pick up the torch on my blog and link back to yours.

Capt,

Thanks for playing! Trackback isn't available in Blogger, as best I can tell. If you use Haloscan instead of Blogger for comments, you can use trackback as well. Alien Soil and Walking Circumspectly both use Haloscan.

There is little better than driving a big traditional wood-grained RWD station wagon with an LT-1 under the hood...and surprising the ricer at the light.

There is little better than a 60's era Jeep, top off, windshield folded down, in low range-first gear, drivetrain whining away, engine idling, clawing it's way up a steep rocky hill somewhere in the middle of the North Carolina hills.

Boyink,

Tell me more about this wagon, I see a Rambler and a Jeep on your site. Now, if you could stuff that LT1 in your Rambler ...

I keep looking for a Ricer to pull up next to me in the old 'Bird. Even thought it's stock (still 300 HP) and a slushbox, it'll jump off the line and actually chirp the tires into second gear. Alas, no such opportunities yet.

;-)

'96 Buick Roadmaster, last year of the big wagons. '94-'96 they used the LT-1 Stock. We bought it because it had a front bench, column shift, tons of legroom (6'3" here), and it was the most affordable tow vehicle we could find - the resale on these wagons just isn't that much. I figure it's a chopped Tahoe for less than 1/2 the price...;)

It's nickname is "Edna"...after Great Aunt Edna in Family Vacation...;)

MT stripped out your image tag, here's a link to a pic of Boyink's wagon for those who want a look.

That wagon is cool. I always thought that you could do some neat stuff with those. Their biggest design flaw, aesthetically, is the wide butt. (Some would argue that the whole car is one big design flaw!) It would take a good bit of surgery to correct that but it could look sweet.

There's a guy here in Columbus that has a red Caprice wagon decked out in SS Impalla badges with Chevy truck aluminum wheels and no lugage rack. Looks pretty good.

Wide butt! ;)

All the better to haul 4x8 sheets of lumber with my dear...

Plus you get the 3rd row "wayback" seat back there...funny how the minivans are just pitching hide-away seats while the old wagons had them for years.

They do look good with big wheels, and a bit of a lowering job. There were a fair number of them selling that way, but I didn't want someone elses "project". This one was in *really* nice shape with slightly high miles...it's at 138K now, and drives like a car with 50K on it.

Its funny how much sentiment there is out there for these traditional wagons yet..I've gotten a number of comments while gassing up..and thumbs up from passing cars on the hwy..

Oh..I should also mention...it gets 25 MPG on the highway..;)
