Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters

For Christmas, my parents bought me and my brother in law the book Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know by Meg Meeker. They heard about it on a radio program and ordered it based on the positive review. Both Mom and Dad read it before giving it to us and thought it was very good.

So far, I've read the intro and I'm looking forward to reading it. As a father of three girls, I probably need to. From the intro:

I want you to see yourself through her eyes. And I don't want this just for her sake, but for yours, because if you could see yourself as she sees you, even for ten minutes, your life would never be the same. ...

Your daughter gets up in the morning because you exist. You were here first and she came into being because of you. The epicenter of her tiny world is you. Friends, family members, teachers, professors, or coaches will influence her to varying degrees, but they won't knead her character. You will. Because you are her Dad.

pp.4-5

Good stuff, and it gives me a lump in my through as I think about it in relation to my girls. I'm going to try to post some things from the book along the way.

Uh oh. More convicting stuff! I probably need to read that too! Maybe I'll just get the "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know for Dummies" version! LOL

Sounds like this book has some great ideas. The father-daughter relationship is key to her character development, her confidence, and her faith. She will adopt your strengths and your weaknesses, and will magnify both. I know firsthand!

I think the "for dummies" is implied. :-D

Yes, this looks good and am looking forward to the review. Having a 3 year old daughter of my own and one more girl on the way, I got use all the advise available. I enjoy your blog by the way, and if you do not mind, I would like to add it to my blog roll.

Sure, link away. I'm not aware of any blogger that doesn't appreciate being put on someone's blogroll. :-)

Thanks.

(BTW - How'd you find me?)

Not a problem, actually I had you linked on my blogroll from a year ago, the last time I blogged. I believe I found your blog thru either ClarkeComments or Keith Brenton.

I really do feel our nations needs more strong fathers like my husband is. He and I adopted our girls when we were in our late forties and we both knew that we wanted our kids raised in a christian home. They were older girls when we adopted them but we searched for some time to find the right church to take them too and put them amongst the right people. He was chastized by them for being too strict and such but now they thank him.

I found you through Millie's blog. *s*
