Final Words and Ascension

OK, it's been almost a month since I got into my Bible. So much for 2-3 times a week. This has long been one of my weaknesses, and I think I will always have to fight to make time to read my Bible.

Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15-20, Luke 24:45-53, John 20:30-31, 21:25, Acts 1:6-26

Luke 24:45-9 - "repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached to all nations" Not "repentance, forgiveness of sins, non-instrumental worship, discipling, evangelism, baptism, proper communion methodology, correct church authority and structure, tithing and proper church attire will be preached to all nations" We'd do well to stick more closely to Jesus' list. :-)

John 20:30-31 - This is why we have the Bible, to believe in Jesus.

John 21:25 - Sometimes I wish a few more - a bunch more - of those 'many other things' that Jesus did had been written down.

So now I'm done with the Gospels. Any suggestions on where I go next? I really don't have any idea, I'd love some input if you have it.

Amen brother!!!!

Well, bible readin' huh? You have two general choices, topical or continuatal. When was the last time you read Philippians in one read? Very encouraging, challanging, and encouraging (I said that already). Or when was the last time you read any of the books in one sitting? I find this very fruitful. I find that the bible makes more sense when everything is in context. Another thing I recently did to spice things up, is pick a new favorite version of the bible. My buddy JohnE www.edingfield.blogspot.com/ and I both started using the English Standard Version. Truthfully, it has been a refreshing alternative to the NIV. Another idea, if you haven't gone through JohnE's Revelation study, this might be a good time to do it. I'm sure He'd love to here from you, and I found it most enlightening. I personally am studying the Beatitudes and am reading through Lamentations. Sometimes I like to study topically, and on alternate days, read through a whole book just to clear and convict the 'ol noggin. That's all I got.

Hey Paul, that was the 600th comment on my site! You win a prize! OK, I don't have any prizes. :-P I just logged into my blog software and discovered that your comment is #600 and thought it was cool. Of course, these guys can get nearly 800 comments on a sport drink hue.

Thanks for the thoughts on where to go. I have been reading JohnE's Revelation studies, good stuff. You know, I'm not sure I've ever sat and read an entire book in one sitting, except for short ones like 3 John or Philemon. I really like your idea of moving on to a new translation. I've read the NIV pretty much exclusively for 17.5 years. It's time for a change. DJ just made some positive comments on the Holman Christian Standard Bible, maybe I'll try that one. I've been wanting to read the NASB for some time too.

I just finished Samuel and am on Judges. I started Samuel way back when we were having leadership discussions as some of the discussions going on it church sounded like the israelites wanting a king..../deacon I think. Anyway, so I went to Judges because it has a lot to do with leadership too. Anyway, not sure if it's what your up to or need right now just thoughts.

Another thought is when I haven't read for awhile and don't really feal like it I pick something easy and fun to read. For me that's usually Daniel because it's so cool and easy to read. Sometime I like Ruth too believe it or not and sometimes Proverbs. Or maybe a spiritaul book.

Anyway I had a victory sort of today. I helped my dad and brother out with projects. I had to pray a ton with my brother because of some past history and though my heart wasn't very pure I fought really hard and let it go, (when is my heart pure right?). Just thought I'd share I guess.

You've got guts - if I asked folks to tell me where they'd like me to go, they'd tell me!

I second the notion of reading through entire books in one sitting. They hang together that way, so much better than when you piecemeal them later!

I'll have to look for the Holman bible. Truthfully I've never heard of it. That doesn't mean much though.
